All dogs in Oregon are required to have the rabies vaccine, and Multnomah County requires it for both cats and dogs. The options for unvaccinated animals that encounter rabid bats are either a six-month quarantine or euthanasia.

The Oregon Humane Society is offering adult cats for $20 all weekend long in honor of cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy's visit to Portland. If you prefer canine companionship, the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter in Hillsboro offers a 50 percent discount on senior dogs ages six and older. Multnomah County Animal Services in Troutdale offers dogs for $25 and cats for $12.
